About me
I am an environmental scientist with expertise in wetlands, biogeochemistry and water quality. I have professional experience of working on projects related to
climate change, carbon finance and biodiversity. I graduated with a PhD in Environmental Engineering and Water Resources Program from the
Department of
Civil and Environmental Engineering at
Princeton University. Along with my doctorate, I obtained a
Science, Technology and Environmental Policy (STEP) certificate from the
Woodrow Wilson School of Public Policy.

World Bank publishes report on ecosystem-based adaptation
I have been involved in a project led by Dr. Kathy MacKinnon in the World Bank Environment department on analysis
of ecosystem-based approaches for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The results of our study have been published in,
"Convenient Solutions to an Inconvenient Truth: Ecosystem-based Approaches to Climate Change"
(Link to the electronic version).
Current efforts to address climate change focus on reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, mainly through cleaner energy strategies, and on attempting to reduce vulnerability of
communities at risk by improving infrastructure to meet new energy and water needs. This report attempts to set out a compelling argument for including ecosystem-based
approaches to mitigation and adaptation an essential component in national strategies to address climate change. Such ecosystem-based strategies can offer cost-effective, proven and
sustainable solutions contributing to, and complementing, other national and regional adaptation strategies.

Paper on anaerobic oxidation of ammonium in wetland soils published
My paper titled,
"Oxidation of Ammonium to Nitrite under Iron Reducing Conditions in Wetland Soils: Laboratory
Demonstration and Field Push Pull Tests," has been published in the journal,
Soil Science.
Nitrite in soils has been observed under a variety of field conditions. Nitrite production in soils is possible during nitrification or denitrification
depending on the soil conditions. This study presents a series of experiments performed at different scales that demonstrate the production of nitrite under iron-reducing conditions,
in the absence of an initial nitrate pool. Further information can be found
here.
